Do You Think Cavities Are Contagious?
The Answer Will Surprise You!
According to many researchers, cavities are in fact contagious. Cavities are caused by bacteria that cling to your teeth and eat away at leftover food particles. During this process an acid is released that slowly causes tooth decay. These cavity-causing bacteria can spread from person to person just like a cold can.
Mother to Child
The most common form is spread from mother to child. Some examples of when this occurs are when a mother tastes food with a spoon before giving it to a child using the same spoon, or when a parent cleans a pacifier with their mouth and then gives it to a child. It does not just transfer from parent to child through. The bacteria can also spread between couples or close friends.
Make sure to keep up with a good oral hygiene routine and avoid sharing food, utensils, toothbrushes, or other items.
